Alison Mari, originally from Philadelphia, is a freelance oboist living in New York City. She studied with David Schneider, who is the Principal oboe with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, Louis Rosenblatt, former English hornist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and Matt Sullivan, oboist of Quintet of the Americas. As an active member of the orchestral community, Alison has performed with ensembles including the String Orchestra of Brooklyn, Manhattan Symphony, One World Symphony, Litha Symphony Orchestra, New York Opera Exchange, and many more. She also very much enjoys collaborative projects, and has immersed herself in a number of multimedia performances. Alison played as accompaniment for the Gloria McLean Dance Company, and from 2011 to 2012 Alison was on the road for the National tour of "My Fair Lady." She made her pop debut playing in the orchestra of Sarah McLaughlin's 2012 tour. Alison participated in a piece of history at Lincoln Center, performing in the small ensemble which accompanied a staged recreation of two episodes from "The Columbia Workshop," a 1940's radio play. Last December, Alison played 2nd oboe/English horn with the South Florida Symphony Orchestra, on their recent Pops and Children's concert series.

In 2011, Alison graduated from New York University with her Masters Degree in Oboe Performance. In her first year, she performed two concerts with the Repertory Orchestra, both as principal oboe, with the Opera Orchestra also as principal, and with a variety of chamber ensembles. Her second year, she continued her participation in chamber music, and performed as principal oboist in the NYU Symphony Orchestra's Film Score competition concert. In addition to taking lessons with Mr. Sullivan, Alison participated in weekly masterclasses with Bert Lucarelli, and also had the opportunity to play in a masterclass for Ray Still, the former principal of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Alison completed her Bachelors Degree in Music Education, at The College of New Jersey, in 2009. Louis Rosenblatt took her on as a student during the summer before college, and she continued on to study with David Schneider during her attendance at TCNJ. She held the principal chair in the TCNJ Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, and was a continuous member of the TCNJ Woodwind Quintet for all four years. Outside of school, she taught oboe privately. During her senior year, Alison had the honor of working with Robert Langevin and Mark Nuccio of the PQNY when they coached the TCNJ quintet in a masterclass. Alison received a performance scholarship from TCNJ and also was given the Eric L. Maybury scholarship for Music Education.

Alison currently plays in a number of ensembles in and around New York. Please take a look at the Calendar page for upcoming shows!
